From the Development Office

Summerfield Waldorf School and Farm is proud of the strong relationships we have within our community. We depend on the generosity of our parents, faculty, friends, extended families, alumni, businesses and foundations to help create a supportive environment that nurtures the development and education of our students. And, in turn, our students receive the foundation they need to contribute to their own communities and the wider world. As members of a Waldorf Community, we take part in a real circle of support and reward.

All independent schools, and now even many public schools, rely on extra support above and beyond tuition and fees. This is because the real cost of educating our children, of giving them a solid cultural and academic foundation, is more than the cost of tuition. The rich full Waldorf Education we provide requires generous tax-deductible gifts to preserve our offering of a vibrant and diverse curriculum to as many students as possible.

At Summerfield, we raise money each year for the education of our children in the following ways:

Annual Giving

For the 2007-2008 school year, the school has budgeted to raise $200,000 from Annual Giving. As of May 15, 2008 we have already raised over $195,000. With just one final push, we will reach our goal. To donate, please mail a check or call 707.575.7194 ext. 105 and speak to Laura Casey.

All monies raised are dedicated to the school's operating budget, which covers such items as teacher salaries, financial aid, and student programs and services. Annual giving is a mechanism that allows our Board of Directors to set tuition at a level that encourages financial diversity and enables every parent to participate meaningfully in the financial life of the school with a tax-deductible gift. As we enhance our programs, the generosity of these gifts makes a significant difference in the lives of our students and creates a financial ring of donors around our school that enables us to fulfill our mission.

Farm to Feast

2nd Annual Farm to Feast....a HUGE success!

Farm to Feast is Summerfield's two tiered fund-raising event.

We are happy to share that Farm to Feast was again a financial success! We raised more than $100,000 for tuition assistance.

Last year, and this, we conducted an online auction and then an event. This magnitude of an event wouldn't be possible without a considerable amount of support from our families. We ask that each family donate at least $200 worth of items that are then auctioned.  As well, this year we had over 50 volunteers involved in the planning and execution of the event. Summerfield families are second to none!

Managing this two tiered event allows for maximum participation both within and outside of our immediate community. Last year, our biggest bidder online was from Japan! And over 50% of our guests at dinner this year were from outside of our immediate community.

Dinner was prepared on  the Medlock-Ames crush pad  for a 110-lucky guests by some of the top chefs in the county including Traci des Jardins (2007 James Beard Winner), John Stewart and Duskie Estes (previous James Beard Winner for her cookbook) from zazu and Bovolo as well as dessert from Jean Yves Charon of Galaxy Desserts.

We are proud to have the support of several businesses including: Bank of America, Twilight Design, Dragonfly Farm, della Fattoria, Classic Party Rental, Mission Linen, Roasters Coffee, Pacific Market, Oliver's Market ,and of coarse the Medlock-Ames Winery.
Stay tuned for plans for next year!
