Fourth Grade does some Exploration
Class Four spent four weeks exploring our local surroundings in our Local Geography block. We created maps of the classroom and of the School. Leslie Young from our Main Office shared with us how our School was first home to the Native Californians, then later became a farm and then a horse ranch.
Class Four finally ventured into our own Laguna de Santa Rosa. From the docents at the Laguna Foundation we learned how the laguna is a wellspring of lif--from egrets to river otters, from tule reeds to live oak trees. We learned how the Pomo people used the abundance of these resources. We created tule necklaces, observed water creatures, and played the migration game. These paintings reflect the children's appreciation for their local surroundings. What a special place to grow up!
