Plein Air Impressionism in the High School
Several decades after Monet's Impressionism in France, the Plein Air Impressionism movemen--also called Impressionism of the Belated Indian Summer--developed in California. The high point of the period was between 1910 through the late 1920's. The students taking this trimester-long painting elective worked mostly outdoors, studying the immediate campus surroundings, as well as our beloved Laguna de Santa Rosa on the weekend. The focus and mood of the class was on the light of the California landscape.
