Karl Forsyth moved to Sebastopol from Anchorage, Alaska with his wife and daughter ('Alex') in June, 2006 to continue Alex's Waldorf education at Summerfield. Alex graduated from Summerfield in 2010.
Karl was one of the founders of the Aurora Waldorf School in Anchorage, and served as a board member and Treasurer for the school for its first eleven years, starting in 1990. As Treasurer, he was responsible for developing the budget and monitoring the cash flow. He came to appreciate the profound importance of an operating budget on a school, not just as a practical operating tool, but also as a tool to tease out and into a shared consciousness what is living in the faculty, board, staff and parents, individually and collectively, at the time of each budget review.
Karl lived in Alaska for over 35 years, where he owned a music store, ran a Russian export business, worked as a professional musician, and worked for fifteen years for the State of Alaska as a computer programmer and database systems designer. His last seven years with the State of Alaska were done remotely from Sebastopol, and he will retire in June 2013. Karl is also an avid Argentine tango dancer and has played drums professionally for longer than he cares to admit.
