Julia McIlroy grew up in Sonoma County and attended Summerfield Waldorf School from Kindergarten through 12th Grade. She graduated with honors from Mills College in Oakland, CA with degrees in Political, Legal and Economic Analysis and Environmental Studies. She went on to receive her Juris Doctor degree Magnum cum Laude from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego. She received numerous honors while in law school, including the Witkin Award for Academic
Excellence, the CALI Excellence for the Future Award, and the Jefferson Medal. She was Managing Editor of the Law Review, on the Board of Directors for the Jeffersonian, the school newspaper, and received a Certificate in Law and Social Justice. After law school, Ms. McIlroy returned to Sonoma County to work at the Public Defender's office for two years, before opening her own legal practice.
