Early Childhood - Roots and Shoots, Preschool and Kindergarten

Our Early Childhood Education Programs provide children (infants through kindergarten) with a calm and joyful experience filled with magic and reverence. Each child's developmental journey is met with love and interest, and the overall environment nourishes the children physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually.

Rhythm is central to Waldorf Education, as it gives children a strong and secure foundation that fosters growth and development. Weekly visits to the farm, for example, enable the children to experience more fully the turning of the seasons. Caring for the animals also helps the children develop habits of care and service. A yearly rhythm is established by celebrating the seasons and festivals.

The rhythm of the year is an important part of the curriculum. The themes of circle time, the mood of the story, and many of the craft activities center around this yearly rhythm. Observation and a respect for nature are fostered. This creates the healthy foundation for our science and social studies curriculum.

Work with parents is an important component of our program. There are regular Parent Evenings throughout the year, individual conferences twice a year, and frequent contact either at drop-off or pick-up times, as well as phone conversations.

Fostering the magic of childhood builds a foundation not only for creative and flexible thinking later in life, but also helps preserve the merriment and awe inherent in a young child.
